The gallery is still having some minor glitches regarding it’s design, but that should be fixed very soon. In the mean time, enjoy the main site’s new look!

Faith Fraud and Minimum Wage premieres in Shanghai

Faith Fraud and Minimum Wage, based on the play ‘Halo’ by Dartmouth writer Josh MacDonald, gets its premiere faraway from home at the Shanghai Film Festival. Starring Callum Keith Rennie and Martha MacIsaac (Superbad) and directed by George Mihalka, the film follows what happens after a teenager fakes an image of Jesus outside her workplace.

The film was selected as part of the Shanghai Film Festival’s Official Selection FOCUS CANADA program. Shot in Spryfield and Shubenacadie during April 2009, MacDonald also wrote the screenplay, and local actors Don Allison and Andrew Bush also appear.

Faith Fraud & Minimum Wage’s Canadian theatrical release is scheduled for October 2010, but we’re hoping for a Atlantic Film Festival appearance.

Article: Faith Fraud & Minimum Wage

I found an old article (from April, 2009) about Faith, Fraud & Minimum Wage (which then had the working title of ‘Halo’) with this article, was a picture of Martha on the film. I’ve added that into the gallery for you all to see.

And here’s what writer, Josh MacDonald has to say about Martha and her work:

MacDonald has been working on a screen version of the story for years. Production began on ‘Halo’, the motion picture, March 25 and wrapped in Shubenacadie last week. It stars PEI native Martha MacIssac (Superbad) as Casey, a challenging role that required the actor for almost every scene.

“The roots for this piece for me are deep and I’ve lived with these characters a long, long time. I’ve seen incarnations of these characters through its life as a theatrical play,” says MacDonald from home a few days before departing with his wife for a Mexico vacation. “But there’s something about the movie that’s for keeps. There will never be another movie. As a play I’ve had beautiful, strong actors like Sue Leblanc-Crawford, Jackie Torrens, Krista Laveck and Kristin Langille play Casey over the years. But now having Martha MacIssac play the film version, it’s exciting for me to see the über-Casey, the definitive Casey. She never blows a take—she is on top of everything, every day. She carries the whole film on her wee little shoulders.
